The legend of Marie Grouette

Let me tell you the history which the old men of my region told to the naughty children.

They said that there would be at the bottom of our swamps a strange creature which would be the mixture between a woman and a frog.

This monster would attract with its tool called in French "Grouet" (a kind of hook) all the slightly too turbulent children who approach too much near the water.

So please be careful !

Now you know that in Northen France, Marie Grouette haunts all the lakes, ponds, ditches and wells since the beginning of time.
